The sources of stress in your life will come and go, ebb and flow… all with the activities and experiences that happen to you.  That’s why I wanted to teach you the most important thing you need to do to keep stress low.

Bottom line – you must be diligent in figuring out your current stressors.

A few weeks ago in this blog I explained the two main sources of stress:  psychological and biological.  It’s very important that you figure out how stress is entering your life anytime it seems to be wreaking havoc on your happiness and success.

There are things you can change once and for all, and those changes will have a lifetime of benefit in terms of your stress level. For instance, you can adopt a diet low in sugar, salt, fat, and refined grains.  Your stress level – biologically – will lower, and your body will be grateful for many other reasons, too.  You could start a meditation practice that you do each morning to bring a deeper level of calm.

There are also sources of stress that come and go with different circumstances and must be dealt with during that time.  Let’s say you’re coping with a loved one who’s been diagnosed with a terminal condition.  That’s a source of stress that is unique to that time and situation.  Some things you could do are lessen the responsibilities or expectations of you at home, hire some help with daily or weekly tasks, increase your meditation practice, learn breath work, journal your emotions, etc.

Perhaps it’s a concern at work – you could be dealing with a new boss who’s doing things very differently than the boss you loved and worked with for 15 years.  That’s a source obviously different from the first example, but it’s still important to consciously reduce the stress around this new situation.  In that circumstance, you could adjust your expectations and perspective of the situation, get to know the new boss, find something good about the new ways of doing things, practice mindfulness, etc.

In either situation – the loved one who’s diagnosed or the new boss (and in any other situation that brings you stress) – you have the CHOICE to do something differently.  That change might only be a shift in how you think about and perceive the circumstance, but even that choice will empower you to create the change you need that’ll decrease stress.

I’d love to help you more with reducing stress in your life.  If you live in West Michigan, I provide stress reduction training to local corporations and businesses.  If you’d like to learn more, get in touch with me here or use the image below to learn more about the workshop I provide.

P.S. Next week I’ll teach you the 9 things you need to know about the bad things that have happened to you

Life can be a bit stressful at times, that’s why learning how to remain calm is so important – meditation is the best path to that inner peace.
